Photographing patterns in the creek.
Richard and I talk often about what is spinning around
in our heads. We try to articulate the sparks of
inspiration for our current work or a body of work. We
are lucky to have each other to bounce and share ideas
in what would otherwise be a very solitary existence
in the average life of the artist. Yet even though we
consciously look for words to illuminate the process
we often stump ourselves.
Winter allows precious time to slow our pace. To take
time, really clear time, for unexpected inspiration to
seep in. For me lately it is poetry. To be specific, I
am reading Edward Hirsch's How to Read a Poem and Fall
in Love with Poetry. I usually avoid covers that start
with How to, but it got me- I have fallen in love with
poetry.
Richard is reading James Gaines “Evening in the Palace of Reason”
which is peaking his interest in the connection between music and art.
The book is a true account of a creative showdown between
J.S Bach and Fredrick the Great.
Poetry and Music, gusts of whirling new patterns of
thought for us.
