We just returned from our yearly trip to New Mexico. Most of the stay this year was in Santa Fe. Santa Fe is the oldest ( and smallest ) capital in the country. For such a small city it has a vast selection of cultural offerings. Ten public museums, over a dozen art festivals, scores of art galleries, a opera and all the food and tequila you would want to drink. Santa Fe has a nationally recognized contemporary art scene. Site Santa Fe is the anchor contemporary art exhibition center and the developing 'rail yard' area is the growing new home to the contemporary art scene. Canyon Road, the oldest and largest art gallery district is filled with dozens of galleries. Some of our favorites are the Gerald Peters Gallery (they also have a fantastic book store ), Wiford Gallery (sole representative of Sam Scott, one of NM best painters), Ernesto Mayans Gallery, Klaudia Marr, Nuart and WinterRowd. Medicine Man Gallery has an excellant collection of authentic native rugs and blankets and some good landscape paintings. Be sure to check out Leo's Book store for a fabulous selection of used art books.
We are also looking into the logistics of teaching a class at Ghost Ranch, the land of Georgia O'Keeffe, next year. We will post more information as this possibility develops. If you are possibly interested in attending our landscape class in New Mexico next year drop us a email.
